Tony Lucente Jr., 64, of Clarksburg, WV, Remembered for His Commitment to Community, Family, and a Life Well-Lived
CLARKSBURG, WV — Tony Lucente Jr., a lifelong Clarksburg resident whose life reflected humility, hard work, and love for others, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was 64.
Born on July 22, 1960, Tony was the son of the late Tony “Tubby” Lucente and Sara Agatha “Gay” Newlon Lucente. He graduated from Liberty High School in 1978 and spent his life building meaningful connections in the city he proudly called home.
A Man of Service and Steady Presence
In 2002, Tony began operating Tubby’s Café in Summit Park, a community favorite that became more than a place to eat—it became a place to belong. Every regular knew Tony’s name, and he made sure he knew theirs. In 2014, he expanded his service to the community as a Harrison County school bus driver, greeting students with warmth and reliability each morning.
Tony didn’t just work in his community—he shaped it. Whether in conversation with café patrons or behind the wheel of a school bus, he brought comfort and consistency to the lives around him.
Anchored by Passion and Joy
Tony’s life brimmed with joyful interests. He had a deep affection for classic cars, especially his cherished 1964 Ford Falcon, affectionately known as “Sweet Pea.” His passion led to an impressive Diecast car collection, displayed with pride both at his home and in his café.
He loved life on the road—boating, riding Harleys, and taking scenic drives through Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains were among his favorite escapes. He also enjoyed the thrill of roller coasters, reminding those around him that joy doesn’t have to fade with age.
Tony’s spiritual life was equally important. He attended both Horizons Church and Jewel City Church, finding strength in his faith and friendships built through worship.
A Devoted Husband, Father, and Friend
Above all, Tony centered his life around family. For 25 years, he shared a devoted marriage with Kathryn Ann Ours Lucente, his partner in every sense of the word. Together, they raised five children:
-
Vincent (Erica)
-
Samantha (James Finley)
-
Nicholas
-
Jonathan (SheBeck)
-
Aberielle Lucente
Tony also took great joy in his grandchildren, who brought light and laughter to his days. His brother, Frank Lucente (Cindy), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends, will remember him as someone who always showed up—with a kind word, a joke, or a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Timothy “Timmy” Lucente and Deborah Lucente O’Shaughnessy, whose memories he carried close.
